Kanyeyachukwu Autism Foundation Embarks on Nationwide Cycling Campaign to Train 1,000 Autism Caregivers

The Kanyeyachukwu Autism Foundation has announced an ambitious plan to train 1,000 autism caregivers and nurses through a fundraising interstate cycling expedition. The foundation revealed the initiative in a statement sent to The PUNCH on Monday.

The cycling expedition, led by Guinness World Record holder and autistic advocate Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, will start in Enugu State and conclude in Lagos State on April 2, 2026.

According to the foundation, the campaign aims to raise autism awareness and foster a deeper understanding among governments, communities, and individuals.

“It is a global social awareness campaign designed to mobilize communities, governments, institutions, brands, and families toward deeper understanding, acceptance, and practical support for persons on the autism spectrum,” the foundation stated.

The initiative also supports the largest global World Autism Awareness Day celebration, in partnership with Spark a Spectrum, a leading USA-based autism advocacy organization. The event promises a nationwide show of inclusion and solidarity, featuring families, advocates, institutions, and creative communities.

Funds raised through the expedition will be dedicated to training 1,000 caregivers and nurses to support children and adolescents living with autism. Participants will gain practical, evidence-based skills to provide daily care, apply behavioral and communication strategies, recognize developmental and sensory needs, and promote inclusion at home, school, and within communities.

“Autism remains under-recognized and under-supported in Nigeria, with estimates suggesting 1 in 100 children are on the spectrum. #RideWithKanye is designed to translate awareness into action by training caregivers with essential skills,” the statement added.

The cycling event will also include interactive sessions, talk shows, and games to engage communities nationwide.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pledged his support for the campaign, sharing a video of his meeting with Kanyeyachukwu and cycling community representatives on social media.

“Kanyeyachukwu is a testament to the fact that determination knows no bounds. We are committed to fostering a society that recognizes talent and creates opportunities for all. Let’s keep building an inclusive Lagos,” the governor said.
