2027: Peter Obi Unveils ‘Operation Rescue Nigeria,’ Urges Nationwide Unity

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to rally behind his new political agenda tagged “Operation Rescue Nigeria” ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking in Uyo on Saturday during the OBIDIENT Conference and his official declaration under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Obi described the initiative as a collective mission to free Nigeria from what he termed decades of bad governance.

The event, themed “Activating the PO Effect in ADC,” marked a significant step in Obi’s 2027 political mobilisation.

2027 Presidential Election: ‘Nigeria Must Get It Right’

Obi stressed the need for credible and transparent elections in 2027, insisting that real-time electronic transmission of results must be enforced nationwide.

“Nigeria must get it right in 2027. Election results must be transmitted online in real time, and whoever fails to transmit results will be held liable. Democracy must work,” Obi declared.

He urged Nigerians to set aside political, ethnic, and religious differences to ensure a free and fair electoral process in 2027.

Key 2027 Election Promises

Real-time online transmission of results

Accountability for electoral malpractice

Nationwide mobilisation for democratic reform

Protection of voters’ mandate

Why Obi Left the Labour Party

Obi explained that he exited the Labour Party after learning that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would not recognise the party’s leadership if he remained.

He further alleged that the Federal Government did not want him on the ballot.
Despite the challenges, Obi vowed to contest the 2027 election.

“I will contest the coming election even if it is held in their bedroom, and if they don’t want to transmit the results, we will transmit them for them,” he said.

Concerns Over Nigeria’s Rising Debt

Addressing economic issues, Obi criticised the current administration’s borrowing record, claiming it has accumulated more loans than previous governments combined.

He warned that repayment obligations projected between 2045 and 2050 would place a heavy burden on Nigeria’s youth.

Economic Reform Agenda

Curb excessive borrowing

Prioritise fiscal discipline

Invest in productive sectors

Reduce poverty to combat insecurity

Education, Healthcare Top Priority

The former Anambra State governor pledged massive investment in education and healthcare if elected president in 2027.

According to him, nations that achieved sustainable development did so through strategic investment in human capital.

He also linked poverty reduction to improved security outcomes, noting that lifting citizens out of hardship would significantly reduce criminality.

Anti-Corruption Stance and Leadership Ethics

Obi reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption, arguing that the problem would reduce drastically if leaders and their families stayed away from public resources.

Citing his tenure as Anambra governor, he said he declined to institutionalise the Office of the First Lady and did not allocate government land to himself or his family.

“If you find any Certificate of Occupancy issued to me or my family, petition me,” he challenged.

OBIDIENT Movement Mobilises for 2027
Also speaking at the event, OBIDIENT Movement Worldwide Coordinator, Tanko Yunusa, urged supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election.

Similarly, Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of the OBIDIENT Movement, Dr Ben Smith, warned against internal divisions that could weaken the reform agenda.

“The 2027 presidential election is not about an individual but about a generation, jobs for youths, security for families, dignity for workers and hope for every Nigerian,” he said.

Operation Rescue Nigeria: What It Means for 2027

With the 2027 presidential election on the horizon, Obi’s “Operation Rescue Nigeria” campaign signals early political realignment and renewed calls for electoral reforms, economic discipline, anti-corruption measures, and strategic investment in human capital.

As political momentum builds, the coming months are expected to shape alliances, voter mobilisation strategies, and policy debates ahead of what many describe as a defining election for Nigeria’s future.
