NiMet Forecast: Sunshine, Cloudiness, and Thunderstorms Across Nigeria This Week

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released its national weather forecast, predicting a mix of sunshine and cloudiness from Monday, February 10, to Wednesday, February 12, 2026, across Nigeria.

According to NiMet’s Sunday outlook from Abuja, the northern region will experience sunny skies with intermittent clouds throughout the forecast period. Residents are advised to take precautions against dust haze, particularly in the North-Central region, which may affect people with respiratory conditions such as asthma.

In the southern region, NiMet forecasts sunny intervals with patches of clouds, along with isolated thunderstorms and light rain expected over Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states later on Monday.

Tuesday, February 11 is expected to bring sunny and hazy skies across the northern and central regions, while the south will experience sunshine with clouds. Early morning thunderstorms with light rain may affect Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states, with more widespread storms anticipated later in Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa.

By Wednesday, February 12, northern Nigeria will see sunny and hazy skies, with dust haze in the afternoon and evening. The central region will maintain sunny and hazy weather, while the south will experience cloudy skies with sunny intervals, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and light rain in Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states.

NiMet advises the public to stay informed through daily weather updates, exercise caution when driving in rain, and for airline operators to check airport-specific weather reports for safe flight operations.
