National News – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has ordered the nationwide deployment of personnel and operational equipment for its 2026 Eid-el-Fitr special patrol, aimed at improving road safety and ensuring smoother travel during the festive period.

The initiative was approved by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, who directed commands across Nigeria to intensify patrol activities as millions of travellers are expected to move across highways to celebrate Eid al‑Fitr with family and friends.

According to the FRSC, the special patrol operation will run from March 17 to March 22, 2026, with officers and rescue teams stationed along major road corridors nationwide.

The deployment includes patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, motorcycles, and traffic monitoring devices to respond quickly to accidents or traffic emergencies.

Officials say the festive season usually records heavy vehicular movement, which increases the risk of road crashes and traffic congestion.

As a result, the agency plans to maintain 24-hour patrol operations to manage the surge in travel and improve highway safety.

During the operation, enforcement teams will focus on key traffic violations known to cause accidents.

These include speeding, dangerous overtaking, tyre violations, lane indiscipline, overloading, mix-loading of goods and passengers, seat-belt offences, and driving mechanically defective vehicles.

FRSC sector commanders have also been instructed to deploy critical equipment such as radar guns, breathalysers, traffic cones, communication gadgets, and advanced life-support ambulances.

The agency’s Special Marshals will support officers with traffic control and public safety awareness during the period.

The corps will work closely with other security and emergency agencies to ensure rapid response to incidents.

These include the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency.

Motorists will also receive real-time traffic updates through the FRSC’s National Traffic Radio 107.1FM, which will broadcast travel advisories and alternative route guidance during the Sallah celebration.

The FRSC urged drivers to cooperate with road safety officials, obey traffic rules, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on long journeys.
