National News – The first trailer for Dune: Part Three has been released, teasing the epic conclusion of the sci-fi trilogy and setting up a major 2026 box office battle with Avengers: Doomsday.
The highly anticipated film is scheduled to hit cinemas on December 18, 2026, the same date currently planned for the next Avengers blockbuster.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film continues the story of Paul Atreides, portrayed by Timothée Chalamet, following his rise as emperor and the consequences of his rule across the galaxy.
The storyline takes place 17 years after the events of Dune: Part Two, showing a darker future marked by war, political tension and personal sacrifice.
The trailer also highlights the return of Zendaya as Chani, who shares emotional scenes with Paul while discussing their future and family.
In one moment, the pair debate names for their child, referencing Fremen traditions and hinting at deeper developments in the story.
Action-packed scenes dominate the preview, featuring massive intergalactic battles, religious fervour among the Fremen and Paul’s struggle to protect those closest to him.
At one point, Paul asks his mother how his father handled leadership, to which she replies that he never started a war — a line that underscores the moral conflict driving the narrative.
The cast also includes Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, and Javier Bardem as Stilgar.
New additions include Anya Taylor-Joy playing Alia Atreides and Robert Pattinson as the mysterious villain Scytale.
Meanwhile, Jason Momoa returns in the form of Hayt, a resurrection of Duncan Idaho, a character who died in the first film.
Industry analysts say the simultaneous release date with Avengers: Doomsday, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, could create one of the biggest cinema showdowns in recent history.
However, Dune: Part Three has already secured IMAX screens for its opening weekend in the United States, suggesting the studio is confident in its box office strength.
The previous films were commercial successes, with the first Dune earning more than $400 million globally and the sequel surpassing $700 million.
With its star-studded cast, intense storyline and massive fan anticipation, Dune: Part Three is expected to be one of the most talked-about movies of 2026.
