National News – The luxury California residence of tech entrepreneur and OpenAI Chief Executive Officer, Sam Altman, was attacked with a Molotov cocktail in the early hours of Friday, April 10, 2026.
Police in San Francisco confirmed that a 20-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the attack, which caused a fire at the exterior gate of the property.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded shortly after 4:00 a.m. local time to reports of a fire at Altman’s home.
Investigators found that an unknown individual had thrown an incendiary device, igniting the property’s exterior gate. Later, police detained the same suspect at OpenAI’s office following threatening behavior.
OpenAI confirmed the incident and said it is cooperating with law enforcement.
No injuries were reported, and it remains unclear if Altman was present at the time.
The incident comes amid ongoing public debate over artificial intelligence, particularly concerning job displacement, security, and the company’s collaborations with the U.S. Department of Defense.
Altman recently posted a personal message calling for calm amid tensions surrounding AI development, emphasizing that technology can benefit society if used responsibly.
