A member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing internal instability within the party.
Abdullahi, who represents Girei State Constituency, presented his resignation letter during plenary on Tuesday.
The Speaker of the House, Bathya Wesley, read the letter before lawmakers and wished the lawmaker success in his future political journey.
Adamawa PDP Crisis Deepens
In his letter, Abdullahi attributed his decision to what he described as the “crisis” rocking the PDP. His resignation adds to growing concerns about internal divisions within the party at both state and national levels.
According to the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Bernard Hyelamada, more lawmakers are expected to submit resignation letters during subsequent plenary sessions, signaling a potential wave of defections in the Adamawa State Assembly.
Senator Binos Yaroe Also Dumps PDP
Abdullahi’s exit follows the recent resignation of Binos Yaroe, the senator representing Adamawa South Senatorial District. Yaroe announced his withdrawal from the PDP, blaming the “fractured state” of the party at the national level.
Political sources indicate that Yaroe may join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His political future is closely watched, particularly as Adamawa South remains a stronghold of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is widely speculated to pursue the presidency under the ADC platform.
Implications for Adamawa Politics
The wave of resignations could significantly reshape Adamawa’s political landscape. Observers say the PDP faces mounting pressure to resolve its internal disputes to prevent further defections.
With 2027 elections approaching, the realignment of key political figures may determine party dominance in Adamawa State and influence national political dynamics.
