The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested six youths following a gunshot incident in Lamurde Local Government Area, as part of a broader effort to prevent escalation of communal tensions in the region.
In a statement issued on Thursday, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the State Police Public Relations Officer, said the suspects were apprehended during a joint security operation aimed at maintaining peace between the Chobo and Bachama communities.
The arrest followed reports of gunshots near Cottage Hospital in Kunduli, Tingno, on the night of 15–16 February 2026. “During the patrol, our team encountered a group of young men who verbally abused security operatives and made provocative statements, prompting their immediate arrest,” the statement read.
The six individuals—Abiola Ayuba (27), Mark Yakubu (22), Yamauyinzin Elias (18), Gabriel Danladi (22), Yunarwe Barnabas (21), and Japheth Agai (20)—were handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yola for further investigation.
The police confirmed that incriminating articles and charms were recovered during the operation, and inquiries are ongoing to establish the suspects’ involvement in the gunshot incident and any connection to the communal unrest.
Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris called on residents to remain calm and law-abiding while cooperating with security agencies. “Our priority is to maintain peace in Lamurde and surrounding areas,” he emphasized.
This development highlights the proactive approach of Adamawa Police in preventing communal violence and ensuring public safety. Authorities are appealing for community cooperation as investigations continue and security measures are reinforced.
The incident also underscores ongoing concerns about youth involvement in violent activities and the importance of community engagement to resolve tensions peacefully, ensuring long-term stability in Lamurde and neighboring communities.
