National News – The leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress intensified on Friday as embattled National Chairman David Mark met with leaders of the Peoples Redemption Party during a closed-door session in Abuja.
The meeting underscored growing political alignments among opposition parties as internal disputes continue to destabilize the ADC.
The high-level engagement brought together key figures from both parties, including PRP National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, PRP Publicity Secretary Muhammed Ishaq, and former APC National Vice Chairman (North) Salihu Lukman.
The gathering reflected renewed attempts at political cooperation and strategic alignment amid deepening internal wrangling in the ADC.
According to insiders, the PRP reaffirmed its support for the ADC leadership and condemned actions it described as undemocratic interference against the party.
Party representatives expressed concern that political pressure and institutional decisions could undermine Nigeria’s democratic framework and weaken opposition parties.
David Mark acknowledged the solidarity shown by the PRP, describing the party as the only political group that had publicly stood with the ADC during its internal conflict.
He expressed optimism that the collaboration would strengthen democratic values and promote national stability.
The meeting came against the backdrop of worsening tensions within the ADC following the emergence of a rival faction that supported the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to withdraw recognition from the Mark-led leadership.
The faction cited a Court of Appeal judgment as justification for its stance and rejected the leadership of Nafiu Bala Gombe, claiming he did not emerge through a legitimate process.
The faction also accused former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu of attempting to hand over the party structure to individuals allegedly aligned with Mark.
Members of the faction stated that a National Executive Committee meeting was held in Abuja, where key resolutions were passed, including the endorsement of a new leadership arrangement.
The developments reflect a deepening power struggle within the ADC, raising concerns about the party’s future direction and its role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
