National News – Indonesian authorities have detained three European nationals—two French citizens and an Italian—on allegations of producing and distributing pornographic content, a serious offense in the country.
The arrests occurred on Bali, a top tourist destination, after a viral video prompted an investigation.
Police confirmed that the trio sought to profit from pornographic material online, a violation punishable by up to 10 years in prison for production and an additional six years for online distribution.
Bali, predominantly Hindu, remains a magnet for millions of tourists each year, yet Indonesia’s strict anti-pornography laws, influenced by the nation’s Muslim-majority population, are rigorously enforced.
Police Chief Joseph Edward Purba of Badung district explained that the Frenchwoman, identified as a content creator, and the Italian were arrested while attempting to leave Bali for Thailand, while her French manager was detained days later.
This crackdown follows a string of deportations of foreigners engaging in unlawful or culturally insensitive acts, including Russian influencers posing naked at sacred sites and a British adult film star deported last year.
Authorities have increasingly voiced concerns about foreign tourists’ unruly behaviors, highlighting Bali’s efforts to maintain cultural respect and public decency.
Purba noted that the investigation was sparked by widespread circulation of the pornographic video on social media platforms.
With Bali as a global hotspot for tourism, officials continue to enforce laws to protect local values and prevent the commercialization of prohibited content.
These arrests serve as a reminder to all visitors that Indonesia enforces strict regulations on online and offline pornographic content.
Legal experts warn that foreign nationals could face severe penalties if found guilty, including extended prison terms and fines, emphasizing that the country’s legal system applies equally to residents and tourists alike.
