National News – The Bauchi State Police Command has raised concerns over serious shortages of personnel, arms, and ammunition, warning that the situation is affecting its ability to effectively combat crime across the state.

The disclosure was made on Thursday by the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, during the visit of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 12, Vungmoh Kwaimo, to the command headquarters in Bauchi.

Aliyu explained that the lack of adequate manpower has significantly affected police deployment and slowed emergency response to rising security threats in several parts of the state.

According to him, the shortage has become a major operational challenge for officers tasked with maintaining law and order.

The commissioner said the command urgently requires additional personnel as well as improved access to arms and ammunition to strengthen ongoing security operations.

He noted that reinforcement would help improve patrol coverage, intelligence gathering, and rapid response capabilities across communities facing criminal activities.

Aliyu stressed that without adequate manpower and equipment, the police may struggle to effectively tackle crimes such as banditry, armed robbery, and other security threats.

He therefore appealed to higher authorities within the Nigeria Police Force to prioritise support for the Bauchi command.

Responding to the concerns, Kwaimo commended the command for its efforts in maintaining security despite the challenges.

The Assistant Inspector-General assured that the issues raised would be examined and communicated to the appropriate authorities for possible action.

Kwaimo also emphasised the importance of discipline, professionalism, and accountability in policing.

He encouraged officers to strengthen community engagement, improve intelligence-driven operations, and adopt modern technology to enhance security strategies in the state.

The police leadership reiterated that improved manpower and equipment are essential for effective policing, especially as security challenges continue to evolve across Nigeria.
