The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a 38-year-old man identified as Samuel Ofiri, a native of Otuoke community in Ogbia Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, operatives of the Kolo Divisional Headquarters responded to a distress call at about 3:30 p.m. on February 22, 2026, and upon arrival at Kakatar Road, Otuoke, officers discovered a lifeless male body, which was later deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Otuoke.
It says following a sting operation, police operatives apprehended five suspects in connection with the incident.
The suspects were identified as Stanley Inemugha (21), Ipagaro Memidin (21), Kingsley Taribo (25), and Boye Easter (22), all from Otakeme community in Ogbia LGA, as well as Preye Timbiri (40) of Otuoke community.
The statement says preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had been accused of raping a woman and was subsequently taken to an apartment on Kakatar Road, where he was allegedly tortured by the suspects. The torture reportedly led to his death.
The Police Command said the suspects are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yenagoa, and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, warned residents against engaging in acts of jungle justice, stressing that such actions remain unlawful and will not be tolerated.
