National News – The BBC has dismissed long-time radio presenter Scott Mills following allegations concerning his personal conduct.

The broadcaster confirmed on Monday that Mills is no longer contracted to work with the corporation but declined to provide detailed information about the claims.

The decision ends the 53-year-old presenter’s decades-long career with the BBC, where he had been a prominent voice across several radio and television programmes.

According to reports first highlighted by the Daily Mirror, the allegation reportedly relates to a historic relationship.

However, the BBC has not publicly confirmed the specifics. In a brief statement, the organisation said it does not comment on matters involving individual staff but confirmed that Mills’ contract had ended.

Mills had been hosting the breakfast show on BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show since January 2025, taking over from Zoe Ball.

On Tuesday, 24 March, he concluded his programme at 09:30 GMT by telling listeners he would return the next day.

Instead, veteran DJ Gary Davies stepped in the following morning, telling listeners he was filling in for Mills.

In an internal email to staff, BBC Director of Music Lorna Clarke described the development as “sudden and unexpected,” acknowledging that the news would shock colleagues and loyal listeners who had followed Mills’ career for many years.

She noted that further updates about the future of the breakfast show would be shared later.

Mills spent more than 25 years working with the BBC, first joining BBC Radio 1 in 1998 before moving to BBC Radio 2 in 2022.

Over the years he became one of the corporation’s most recognised presenters and was ranked among its highest-paid stars, earning between £355,000 and £359,999 according to the latest BBC annual report.

Beyond radio, Mills also appeared on television programmes including Strictly Come Dancing and the travel competition show Celebrity Race Across the World, which he won in 2024 alongside his husband, Sam Vaughan.

At the time of his dismissal, Mills’ breakfast programme reportedly attracted around 6.5 million listeners, making it one of the UK’s most listened-to morning radio shows.

The BBC has yet to announce a permanent replacement for the popular breakfast slot.
