BREAKING: APC’s Christopher Maikalangu Re-Elected AMAC Chairman in FCT Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election. Maikalangu, the incumbent chairman, secured a decisive victory after polling the highest number of votes.

Andrew Abue, the collation officer for AMAC, confirmed that Maikalangu received 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) came second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 3,398 votes. The total votes cast were 65,197, including 2,336 rejected votes. Out of 837,338 registered voters, 65,676 were accredited to vote.

Abue formally announced,

“That Maikalangu of the APC, having met all legal requirements, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”

Other party results included: NNPP – 1,694 votes, SDP – 2,185 votes, APGA – 1,111 votes, and smaller counts for Accord, AA, ADP, APM, APP, BP, PRP, YPP, and ZLP.

Speaking after the results, APC collation agent Gambo Babale described the election and collation process as credible and transparent. He highlighted that PDP won only two ward councillor seats in Karu and Karishi, emphasizing the overall fairness of the election. Babale added that the results signal APC’s readiness for the 2027 general elections.

The YPP collation agent also commended INEC for the transparency of the process and congratulated Maikalangu. The result sheets were signed by party agents from APC, ADC, APGA, YPP, and NNPP, ensuring full accountability at the collation centre.

Maikalangu’s victory reinforces the APC’s stronghold in AMAC, promising continuity in leadership and further delivery of democratic dividends to the people of the Federal Capital Territory. This win sets the stage for APC’s strategy and momentum ahead of the 2027 polls.
