National News – Yusuf Buhari, the only son of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, has officially declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His planned bid is for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a letter dated April 3, 2026, and personally signed by him, Yusuf Buhari expressed his interest in representing the constituency at the National Assembly.
According to the letter, the 32-year-old businessman said his decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and community leaders across the constituency.
He explained that his ambition was motivated by a desire to provide quality leadership, infrastructural development, and human capital support for the people of Sandamu, Daura, and Mai’Adua.
“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for the seat of the House of Representatives for Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency,” he wrote.
He added that with the support of party leaders and constituents, his campaign would focus on improving development and delivering effective representation.
Yusuf Buhari’s political aspiration comes shortly after APC stakeholders in Sandamu Local Government Area endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the federal constituency seat.
The endorsement reportedly took place during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting at the Sandamu Local Government Secretariat.
Speaking during the meeting, the council chairman, Usman Na-Lado, said the decision to support Yusuf Buhari was a collective resolution by party leaders and elected officials across the constituency.
He noted that the endorsement was based on the belief that Yusuf Buhari possesses the capacity and acceptance needed to represent the people effectively.
Party insiders also indicated that the endorsement aligns with the political direction of Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, who is said to support Yusuf Buhari’s emergence as the party’s candidate.
The meeting further reaffirmed support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Radda as the APC’s preferred candidates for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections, respectively.
