National News – Bayero University Kano (BUK) has expelled 171 students for submitting falsified admission credentials.
The decision followed a thorough investigation by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities and was approved at the university’s 433rd Senate meeting on March 4, 2026.
The students, drawn from various departments and academic levels, violated the institution’s regulations on academic integrity, prompting the strict disciplinary action.
The university’s weekly bulletin confirmed that the students’ actions breached Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of BUK’s General Examinations and Academic Regulations, which mandates expulsion for such offenses.
In addition to academic fraud, the Senate also expelled Yusuf Muhammad Sani, a Civil Engineering student, for physically assaulting invigilators during an examination.
The assault disrupted the exam process and violated student conduct policies, highlighting the university’s commitment to discipline.
BUK’s management emphasized that this decisive move is part of ongoing efforts to preserve the credibility of its academic records and maintain strict adherence to regulations.
“Any breach of our rules will attract appropriate sanctions.
This mass expulsion serves as a warning to current and prospective students that BUK enforces a zero-tolerance policy against both academic dishonesty and indiscipline,” the statement read.
The expulsion of these students raises awareness of the importance of honesty in admissions and student behavior across Nigerian universities.
It also signals BUK’s proactive measures in safeguarding the value of its degrees and the fairness of its academic system.
Stakeholders, including students, parents, and regulatory bodies, are encouraged to support and uphold these standards to maintain academic excellence.
