National News – China has issued a stern warning over escalating tensions in the Middle East, cautioning that further attacks could trigger an “uncontrollable situation” in the region.
The statement came after US President Donald Trump threatened to destroy Iran’s power plants if Tehran did not lift its partial blockade of the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.
The Strait, a crucial waterway through which nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil passes, has become a flashpoint in the ongoing conflict.
Speaking at a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian emphasized that any military action could exacerbate instability and disrupt global energy security, including China’s oil supplies.
Beijing, a longstanding partner of Iran, condemned the use of force while calling for de-escalation and a ceasefire.
China’s position comes amid US and Israeli attacks on Iran over the past month, which have heightened regional tensions.
Trump, who delayed a planned visit to Beijing due to the crisis, urged China and other global powers to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
While Beijing has yet to respond formally, it has dispatched special envoy Zhai Jun on a diplomatic mission across the Middle East to encourage dialogue and prevent further escalation.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated that the ongoing conflict “should never have happened” and called for immediate cessation of hostilities.
Analysts note that continued aggression in the region could threaten not only regional stability but also international trade and energy markets.
China’s warning highlights the global implications of the Middle East conflict and underscores the need for coordinated diplomatic intervention to prevent a wider crisis.
