Ekiti Amotekun Arrests Five Suspected Gunmen, Seizes Weapons and Charms

The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps has successfully apprehended five suspected gunmen who were intercepted in Ekiti West Local Government Area, authorities confirmed on February 25, 2026.

According to Adeleye Adewale, State Communications Officer for Amotekun, the suspects were intercepted in the Itawure area after alighting from a vehicle at a motor park near a local church. Following an alert from residents, Amotekun officers moved swiftly to the scene.

The five suspects—identified as Abdulahi Makana (28), Shuaba Ibrahim (25), Adamu Muhammed (25), Shlibu Umar (31), and Aruna Yahaya (28)—are reportedly from northern Nigeria.

Weapons and other items were recovered from them, including two locally made guns, an axe, a daga (traditional sword), two dogs, five mobile phones, and assorted charms.

Upon interrogation, the suspects claimed to be farmers but failed to provide evidence to support their claims, raising further suspicion.

Adeleye Adewale confirmed that all suspects and recovered items have been handed over to the Ekiti West Police Command for further investigation and appropriate legal action.

This operation underscores the proactive role of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps in maintaining local security and combating violent activities in the state.

Community cooperation was highlighted as a critical factor in the successful interception, demonstrating the importance of local vigilance in addressing security challenges.
