Nigerian actress Kemisola Apesin, popularly known as Kemity, has strongly denied allegations that she exchanged sexual favours for movie roles in Nollywood.
In a recent Throwback Thursday post shared on her Instagram page, the actress addressed what she described as “social media noise” surrounding her career journey.
Kemity Clears the Air on Sex-for-Roles Claims
Reacting to rumours, Kemity firmly stated that she has never compromised her integrity to secure film opportunities.
“Nobody should let anyone deceive them because of social media noise. I have never used my body to collect a movie role. I have never slept with anyone to get featured in any film. I have never exchanged sex for opportunity,” she wrote.
Her statement comes amid ongoing conversations in the Nigerian film industry about exploitation and the so-called “sex-for-roles” culture.
Actress Highlights Financial Independence Before Fame
The Nollywood star explained that she was financially stable long before gaining public recognition. According to her, she owned two wine shops and also worked as a receptionist at Masters Hotel in Ayobo before fully establishing herself in the movie industry.
Kemity revealed that financial pressures during movie productions influenced her decision to temporarily switch roles behind the scenes.
“From the beginning, I have always been an actress. When I noticed that actors had to feed themselves and even pay for hotels during production, I decided to become part of the crew. That was when I chose makeup artistry.”
She noted that her transition from acting to makeup artistry — and eventually back to acting — was a gradual process built on persistence and hard work.
“Nothing Was Handed to Me” – Kemity
Reaffirming her stance, Kemity said every achievement in her career came through dedication and God’s grace.
“Everything I am today is my sweat. Everything I have achieved is hard work and God’s grace. Nothing was handed to me.”
She also emphasized her upbringing, describing herself as someone raised with strong moral values.
Actress Speaks on Motherhood and Values
The mother of two daughters stressed that she is committed to raising her children with dignity and integrity.
“I am a mother. I have two daughters I am raising and training with dignity and strong values. I cannot build their future on something dirty.”
Kemity added that no one can publicly claim she traded her body for opportunities in the entertainment industry.
Advice to Upcoming Actresses
Offering guidance to aspiring actresses in Nollywood, Kemity urged them not to succumb to pressure or misleading advice.
“Upcoming actresses, please do not let anyone mislead you. You can succeed with talent, discipline, consistency, and hard work.”
Her remarks add to the broader conversation about professionalism, ethics, and integrity in Nigeria’s film industry.
