Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has responded to renewed online attention over her decade-old tweets.

The resurfaced posts followed her recent statements condemning rape, sparked by discussions around the Mirabel TikToker case.

Clarifying Her Old Posts

Simi explained that the tweets, dating back to 2012–2013, were often misinterpreted. At the time, she lived with her mother and helped run her daycare while building her music career.

“I tweeted about everything happening in my life, as we all did back then,” Simi said.

She added that the posts were harmless observations about children at the daycare and not meant to suggest anything inappropriate. Some tweets were later deleted due to sensitivity for her family.

“Kids can be mischievous. If a child did something funny, I tweeted about it. Nothing I tweeted was from perversion,” she clarified.

Standing Firm Against Sexual Violence

Simi emphasized that her recent statements align with her long-held beliefs against sexual abuse.

“I have always spoken against rape and sexual assault. It’s not a costume I’m wearing, it’s who I am. I said stop raping women. I stand by it,” she said.

Her call for accountability included strong language against perpetrators, stating that men who commit rape should face severe consequences.

The resurfacing of Simi’s tweets has sparked widespread debate on social media, with users discussing context and intent.

Despite differing opinions, Simi remains focused on using her platform to advocate against sexual violence.

“What I can’t let anyone do is twist my story to fit false narratives,” she said.
