National News – The Federal Government has directed civil servants working within the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja to work from home on Friday, March 27, 2026, ahead of the national convention of the All Progressives Congress scheduled to hold at Eagle Square.
The directive affects ministries, departments, agencies, and offices located within Federal Secretariat Phases I, II, and III, as authorities prepare for the major political gathering expected to draw thousands of party members and delegates from across Nigeria.
The order was announced in an official circular issued on Thursday and signed by Abdul Garba, Permanent Secretary of the Service Welfare Office, on behalf of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack.
According to the circular, the government decided to temporarily close roads leading to and around the Federal Secretariat complex to ease security operations and traffic management during the ruling party’s national convention.
Government officials explained that all access roads around the Federal Secretariat Phases I, II, and III will be closed from Friday, March 27, to Saturday, March 28, 2026.
The restriction will also affect areas surrounding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other nearby government offices.
As a result, workers whose offices are located within the affected zones have been instructed to remain off-site and carry out official duties remotely on Friday.
The directive forms part of broader logistical and security measures being implemented ahead of the APC national convention at Eagle Square in central Abuja.
Authorities noted that the convention is expected to attract top party leaders, government officials, delegates, and supporters from across the country.
The event is considered a crucial gathering for internal party deliberations and political planning, particularly as parties begin positioning ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The government also directed all permanent secretaries and heads of federal agencies to immediately notify their staff about the directive and ensure full compliance.
Officials said the temporary work-from-home arrangement is intended to minimize congestion, improve security coordination, and ensure smooth conduct of the APC convention.
The APC national convention will serve as a strategic platform for the ruling party to review internal structures, strengthen party leadership, and outline political strategies for future electoral contests.
