FIFA to Lead $75M Gaza Football Rebuilding Project After Conflict

FIFA will spearhead a $75 million initiative to rebuild football facilities in Gaza, which were devastated by years of conflict between Israel and Hamas, officials announced Thursday. The project was unveiled in Washington during the first meeting of former US President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace,” a coalition of global leaders focused on the post-war reconstruction of Gaza.

“I’m pleased to announce that FIFA will help raise $75 million for projects in Gaza,” Trump said, highlighting plans to rebuild soccer fields and bring world-class football stars to the region. FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who attended the event, emphasized the importance of international support for football development in post-conflict areas.

FIFA outlined plans to construct a football academy, dozens of community pitches, and a new 20,000-seat national stadium. While Trump cited the $75 million figure, FIFA stated that funding will come from international leaders and institutions dedicated to supporting Gaza’s recovery.

Infantino called the partnership “a landmark agreement” that will foster investment into football as a tool for rebuilding communities and promoting youth engagement. The initiative also reflects FIFA’s broader goal of using sport to drive peace and social development in regions affected by conflict.

The “Board of Peace” was formed after the Trump administration, in partnership with Qatar and Egypt, brokered a ceasefire in October, ending two years of devastating fighting. The United States has since emphasized efforts to stabilize Gaza, including initiatives aimed at disarming Hamas, the Palestinian militant group behind the October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel.

Through the $75 million Gaza football rebuilding program, FIFA and international partners aim to restore critical sports infrastructure, provide opportunities for youth, and strengthen community morale. By prioritizing soccer, the initiative seeks to help Gaza recover from war while creating a long-term foundation for peace, education, and social cohesion.
