Award-winning actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has called for greater unity and collaboration within the Nigerian film industry, urging stakeholders to support one another instead of fostering rivalry.
The Nollywood powerhouse made the appeal while speaking at the premiere of ‘Love and New Notes’, the latest movie by actor and producer Timini Egbuson.
A Call for Collaboration in Nollywood
Addressing guests and cast members after the screening, Akindele stressed the importance of solidarity in Nollywood, emphasising that success in the industry is built on teamwork, hard work, and dedication.
“We all need to come out to support Nollywood. We are all one. There’s no competition, it’s called collaboration. As long as you put in the hard work and dedication, you will all reach the top,” she said.
Her message resonated strongly amid ongoing conversations about competition and industry rivalry in Nigeria’s fast-growing film sector.
Praise for ‘Love and New Notes’ Production Quality
Akindele also applauded the creative direction and overall production quality of the film, commending director Kayode Kasum for delivering an improved cinematic experience.
“Congratulations Timini and Kayode (Kasum). This is the second time I am attending your movie premiere and it’s better. I love the shots, storytelling, costumes, lighting and acting,” she said.
Her remarks highlighted Nollywood’s increasing investment in high production standards, storytelling depth, and technical excellence.
Special Recognition for Cast Performances
The actress reserved special praise for members of the cast, noting their growth and versatility on screen.
She commended Eniola Badmus, describing her performance as a refreshing display of range beyond comedy roles.
“Eniola is my good friend. I call her a comedian but here, I saw proper acting. Kudos to the director.”
Akindele also praised Odunlade Adekola for his depth and evolution as an actor.
“To my brother Odunlade, I saw you in ‘Ginger’ and I have seen you here. You are deep.”
Nollywood Growth Through Unity and Support
As Nollywood continues to expand globally, Akindele’s message underscores the need for collaboration, mutual support, and shared success among actors, filmmakers, and producers.
Her call for unity reflects a broader push to strengthen the Nigerian film industry’s global competitiveness while fostering a culture of encouragement and partnership at home.
