A suspected terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, where dozens of soldiers and civilians were reportedly killed and more than 300 residents abducted.

The violent raid occurred late Wednesday night when armed attackers stormed the town, setting fire to homes, shops, and a military base while shooting indiscriminately.

The assault left several casualties and forced many residents to flee the community for safety.

In a video released on Friday, five armed men claiming to represent the group declared that they had successfully taken control of the town and intended to remain there.

Speaking in Hausa, a spokesperson for the group said the attackers had carried out killings during the operation and planned to celebrate the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr in Ngoshe’s central mosque.

The spokesperson also admitted that numerous residents were taken captive.

According to the video message, those abducted would be held as slaves.

The group further threatened to extend attacks to other major cities, including Maiduguri and Abuja.

Footage circulating from the scene reportedly shows disturbing scenes of violence during the assault.

Witnesses said the attack lasted several hours before Nigerian military forces responded.

Residents who escaped the attack expressed deep concern for elderly villagers and those unable to flee the violence.

Many survivors abandoned their homes and belongings while escaping and are now taking refuge in nearby communities.

Security officials confirmed that the attackers dispersed into surrounding forest areas after the air component of Operation Hadin Kai responded to the incident.

Police authorities said the number of casualties and missing residents is still being verified.

Some individuals are believed to have been taken toward the Mandara Mountains following the attack.

Meanwhile, the Borno State government has begun providing emergency assistance to displaced residents currently sheltered in Pulka.

Relief supplies including rice, millet, sugar, and blankets have been dispatched, while health officials are also working to prevent disease outbreaks among survivors.

Authorities say investigations and rescue efforts are ongoing as security forces continue operations in the area.
