Edo PDP Hails Court Validation of 2025 National Convention, Says People’s Will Prevails

Chairman, PDP, Edo State, Tony Aziegbemi

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the ruling of the Oyo State High Court which upheld the party’s November 15 and 16, 2025 National Convention, describing it as a decisive victory for internal democracy and constitutional order.

In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Dan Osa-Ogbegie, the Edo PDP said the judgment reaffirmed that the collective will of party members cannot be overridden by inducement, intimidation, or political conspiracy.

Justice Ladiran Akintola of High Court 5 in Ibadan validated the convention that produced the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC).

The court granted all 13 reliefs sought by PDP member Folahan Adelabi and declared the convention legally convened in line with earlier court orders issued and renewed in November 2025.

The court further ruled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), having been a party to the interim orders, is bound to recognise and give full effect to the outcome of the convention unless overturned by a higher court.

PDP Convention Judgment Strengthens Party Supremacy

Reacting to the decision, Osa-Ogbegie described the ruling as more than a procedural endorsement, calling it a constitutional landmark for party democracy in Nigeria.

According to him, the judgment sends a strong message that internal party disputes must be resolved through lawful frameworks rather than sponsored litigation or propaganda.

He also accused elements within and outside the party of attempting to destabilise the PDP for political gain, insisting that the verdict has exposed what he termed duplicity and anti-party activities.

The Edo PDP maintained that enforcing discipline within its ranks was necessary to protect party supremacy and governance credibility.

The spokesperson stressed that democracy thrives when institutions are respected, even when outcomes do not favour certain interests.

With the court validation, the party says it remains confident that its leadership structure stands on solid legal and moral grounds, reinforcing its position as a leading opposition platform committed to constitutional order and democratic accountability.
