Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital has defended two of its doctors who were suspended following investigations into the death of the 21-month-old son of renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

The hospital responded after the Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel ordered the interim suspension of its Medical Director, Dr Tunde Majekodunmi, and another physician, Dr Titus Ogundare, over alleged medical negligence linked to the child’s death.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Euracare expressed confidence in the competence and professionalism of the suspended doctors, describing them as experienced medical practitioners who have served Nigerian patients for many years.

According to the hospital, both doctors have built careers dedicated to delivering quality healthcare comparable to international medical standards.

Euracare also emphasised that it had conducted its own internal review of the clinical events surrounding the toddler’s treatment.

The hospital stated that the review was carried out in accordance with clinical governance standards and medical best practices.

Despite defending its staff, Euracare said it would fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

The institution stressed that it supports a fair and transparent process for everyone involved.

However, the hospital also raised concerns about what it described as procedural irregularities during the investigation process.

According to the statement, certain established procedures and protocols may not have been properly followed during the proceedings.

Euracare further expressed concern about possible breaches of patient and institutional confidentiality during the handling of the case.

The hospital said any disclosure of confidential information outside official channels would be treated as a serious issue.

Meanwhile, Euracare extended condolences to the family of the late child, acknowledging the profound pain associated with losing a young child.

The suspension of the doctors followed findings by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel, which determined that medical negligence may have contributed to the toddler’s death on January 7, 2026.

Pending the final decision of the Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal, the suspended doctors remain barred from practising medicine in Nigeria.
