Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has received the newly appointed Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Peter Akpe, at his residence in Yenagoa.
The courtesy visit followed Akpe’s recent appointment and swearing-in as the sixth Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.
His emergence comes after the passing of former Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who died on December 11, 2025.
Jonathan shared details of the meeting on his official social media platform, describing the visit as thoughtful and commendable.
He expressed confidence in Akpe’s leadership capacity and wished him success in serving the people of Bayelsa State.

Akpe’s nomination was forwarded to the Bayelsa State House of Assembly by Governor Douye Diri after what he described as prayerful consideration.
The Assembly swiftly confirmed the nomination, paving the way for Akpe to assume office in line with constitutional provisions.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Bayelsa State Executive Council Chamber in Yenagoa.
The event also featured the inauguration of four commissioners and 14 permanent secretaries, marking a broader leadership renewal within the state government.
Governor Diri emphasized the solemn responsibility of the office during the ceremony and prayed for the repose of the late deputy governor.
He noted the symbolic significance of the day, highlighting unity and continuity in governance.
