An All Progressives Congress (APC) councillor in Imo State, Magnus Chibuike Okorie, has distributed more than 3,000 educational materials, including school bags, textbooks, and uniforms, to pupils and students in Owerre-Ebeiri Ward of Orlu Local Government Area.

The initiative formed part of the councillor’s one-year scorecard and empowerment programme, where he highlighted projects carried out to improve education and development in his constituency.

Support for Students in Rural Imo Communities

Okorie, who serves as the Majority Leader of the Orlu Legislative Council and Vice Chairman of the South-East Councillors Forum of Nigeria, said the donation was motivated by his visit to schools in the ward.

During the visit, he noticed several pupils wearing worn-out or torn uniforms.

According to him, the discovery pushed him to intervene by providing school uniforms, bags, and textbooks to support students and reduce the financial burden on parents.

To ensure proper fitting, tailors were engaged to take measurements for the pupils before the uniforms were produced and distributed.

JAMB Forms for Indigent Students

In addition to the educational materials, the APC councillor also facilitated 35 JAMB registration forms for students in the ward who intend to pursue higher education.

Okorie disclosed that the initiative received financial support from Mazi Nzeribe Azukwu, the President of the Old Owerre-Ebeiri Progressive Union in the diaspora.

The support enabled students not only from Owerre-Ebeiri Ward but also from other parts of Orlu Local Government Area to benefit.

The councillor noted that the programme aims to encourage academic excellence and increase opportunities for young people in the community.

Infrastructure and Community Development Efforts

Beyond education, Okorie also highlighted efforts to improve local infrastructure.

He said he coordinated the grading of several rural link roads within the limited timeframe allocated by the local government authority.

The road improvements were part of efforts to support the development initiatives of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, particularly in enhancing access to rural communities.

Okorie also noted his involvement in ensuring a smooth community leadership election that produced Sir Emeka Okanta as the President-General of the Owerre-Ebeiri Autonomous Community.

He expressed optimism that continued collaboration between community leaders, government officials, and diaspora supporters would accelerate development in the area.
