National News – Three Nigerian football stars—Paul Onuachu, Victor Osimhen, and Ibrahim Olawoyin—have been named in the Turkish Super Lig Team of the Week after standout performances during the weekend.
Selected by Opta Can for beIN Sports, the trio’s exceptional displays highlight the growing influence of Nigerian talent in Europe’s competitive leagues.
Onuachu and Osimhen formed a potent 4-4-2 attack partnership, while Olawoyin secured a midfield spot through relentless effort and tactical discipline.
Onuachu, the league’s top scorer, scored twice for Trabzonspor in their 3–1 win over Kayserispor, taking his season tally to 20 goals—four clear of closest rival Eldor Shomurodov of Istanbul Basaksehir.
Osimhen, Galatasaray’s attacking talisman, netted the only goal in a 1–0 Istanbul derby win against Besiktas, helping his team maintain a four-point lead atop the Super Lig standings with 61 points.
Olawoyin, despite not scoring, impressed with 34 accurate passes from 43 attempts, 82% pass completion in the final third, four successful dribbles, and 13 duels won, contributing defensively with interceptions and clearances that helped Rizespor secure a 1–0 victory over Antalyaspor.
This recognition cements Nigeria’s reputation as a talent powerhouse, with the players’ contributions pivotal in shaping the outcomes of key matches in the Turkish Super Lig.
Fenerbahce midfielder Matteo Guendouzi also featured in midfield alongside Olawoyin, adding further quality to the team of the week.
The trio’s performances continue to excite fans and affirm Nigerian players’ growing prominence in European football.
