A tragic accident has claimed the life of a female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) during a simulation exercise in Abuja.

The fatal incident occurred during a coordinated show-of-force drill involving operational patrol vehicles.

According to officials, the officer was knocked down and run over by a moving patrol vehicle as it maneuvered during the exercise.

Confirming the development, NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale described the event as a “very sad and unfortunate incident,” noting that the corps had lost one of its own in the line of duty.

The simulation exercise was part of routine operational preparedness activities aimed at enhancing coordination and rapid response capabilities.

Viral footage circulating on social media captured the moment the patrol vehicle struck the officer while making a turn.

The vehicle came to an immediate halt after the impact. Fellow operatives and bystanders rushed to lift the vehicle in a desperate attempt to rescue her from underneath.

Emergency responders were swiftly called to the scene and evacuated the injured officer to a medical facility. Despite efforts to save her life, she was later pronounced dead.

The tragic loss has sparked conversations about safety measures during paramilitary drills and operational exercises.

Simulation exercises are designed to improve readiness and coordination; however, this incident underscores the importance of strict safety protocols during high-intensity training activities.

The NSCDC has yet to release further details regarding investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Meanwhile, colleagues and well-wishers continue to mourn the fallen officer, whose dedication to service ended in the course of duty.

This heartbreaking event highlights the risks security personnel face, even during training operations intended to strengthen national safety and emergency response systems.
