President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu have praised Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), as a “spiritual fortress” as the respected Nigerian cleric marks his 84th birthday.
In a birthday tribute released on Sunday, the presidential couple described Adeboye—widely known as Daddy G.O.—as one of Nigeria’s greatest spiritual gifts whose prayers and leadership have influenced the nation for decades.
According to the message, Adeboye’s humility, wisdom, and dedication to service have helped transform countless lives in Nigeria and around the world.
The President acknowledged the cleric’s unwavering prayers for the nation and his strong commitment to Nigeria’s development.
Tinubu also praised Adeboye’s far-reaching contributions beyond the pulpit, noting that the pastor has significantly impacted sectors such as education, healthcare, philanthropy, and economic empowerment through initiatives connected to the RCCG.
The tribute further highlighted the influential role Adeboye has played in guiding the church and nurturing spiritual growth among millions of followers globally.
Born on March 2, 1942, in Ifewara, Osun State, Adeboye earned a doctorate in Applied Mathematics from the University of Lagos before committing fully to ministry.
He joined the RCCG in 1973 and later became its General Overseer in 1981, succeeding the church’s founder, Josiah Akindayomi.
Under Adeboye’s leadership, the church expanded rapidly from a modest congregation in Lagos into one of the world’s largest Pentecostal denominations.
Today, the RCCG operates thousands of parishes across more than 190 countries, making it one of the most influential Christian movements globally.
One of the church’s most notable events is the monthly Holy Ghost Service held at Redemption City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The gathering regularly attracts millions of worshippers and is regarded as one of the largest Christian assemblies worldwide.
Beyond church leadership, Adeboye has also championed education through the establishment of Redeemer’s University in Ede, Osun State, alongside numerous healthcare and humanitarian projects.
As Adeboye celebrates his 84th birthday, national leaders, church members, and Christians worldwide continue to recognise his enduring legacy of faith, leadership, and service.
