National News – A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike has called for stability and reconciliation within the party as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The appeal came during the 86th meeting of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), where party leaders emphasised unity and the need to resolve lingering leadership disputes that have affected the opposition party in recent months.

Chairman of the BoT, Mao Ohuabunwa, described the gathering as a “defining moment” for the PDP.

He urged members to prioritise calm dialogue, institutional memory, and respect for the party’s constitutional values.

According to him, the BoT remains the moral compass of the party and must guide members toward unity and long-term political stability.

Ohuabunwa noted that recent ward and local government congresses across the country were largely peaceful and transparent, demonstrating the party’s commitment to grassroots democracy.

He added that the upcoming state congresses would strengthen party structures nationwide ahead of the PDP national convention scheduled for March 29–30.

The BoT chairman also referenced a recent decision by the Court of Appeal of Nigeria affirming the National Caretaker Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

He said the judgment had provided clarity on the party’s leadership structure and urged members to respect the rule of law while focusing on rebuilding the party.

Mohammed, chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee, called on stakeholders and party supporters to rally behind the caretaker leadership.

He explained that the committee remains the only recognised body authorised to present candidates for elections leading up to 2027.

He also revealed that preparations for the national convention were progressing, including an inspection of the National Stadium as a potential venue.

According to him, the party recently secured favourable rulings in nine separate appeals, reinforcing the legitimacy of the caretaker leadership.

The PDP leadership crisis began in November 2025 after a disputed convention in Ibadan that produced Kabiru Turaki and other National Working Committee members.

However, a court ruling later nullified the convention, citing violations of the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.

Party leaders have now urged members to end internal litigation and embrace reconciliation to reposition the PDP as a strong opposition force ahead of the 2027 elections.
