Arne Slot Slams “Same Old Story” as Liverpool Fall to Late Wolves Goal

Liverpool manager Arne Slot voiced frustration after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, calling it the “same old story” for the Reds this season.

Despite controlling 65.8% possession and winning 11 corners compared to Wolves’ two, Liverpool could not convert dominance into points.

Slot highlighted inefficiency in front of goal as a recurring problem.

Rodrigo Gomes scored for Wolves in the 78th minute, Mohamed Salah equalized shortly after, but a stoppage-time deflected strike from Andre secured victory for the home side.

“Recently, we are picking up points mainly from set-pieces,” Slot said. “But we continue to struggle to score from open-play chances, despite having more opportunities than the opposition.”

Liverpool created several high-quality chances late in the game, including an intercepted Salah dribble and a Virgil van Dijk header saved by Wolves’ keeper Jose Sa. Yet, Slot stressed that key moments still fall short.

The Dutch manager also acknowledged Wolves’ compact defensive performance. “Well done by Wolves—they made it really hard for us,” he said.

Slot encouraged quicker ball circulation at halftime, but admitted the execution on the sides remained predictable and slow.

With eight Premier League 2026 matches remaining, Slot admitted expectations have been adjusted but remained realistic. “If we play this game ten times, we wouldn’t lose all ten, but we need to perform better and finish our chances.”

For Liverpool, the latest defeat highlights a season-long pattern: dominating games but leaving the pitch empty-handed.

Wolves, struggling at the bottom of the table, now have three EPL wins this season, while Liverpool’s margin for error continues to shrink.
