Temitope Adeshina, the Nigerian high jumper and national record holder, is on track to make NCAA history, according to Texas Tech track and field coach Wes Kittley.

Adeshina claimed her third consecutive Big 12 indoor high jump title, clearing 1.96m, tying the second-best mark in the school’s history and setting a new meet record.

Her performance surpassed the previous record of 1.93m set by Akela Jones in 2016 and Destinee Hooker in 2009.

This feat also makes Adeshina the first woman in Big 12 history to win three straight indoor high jump titles since Rylee Anderson (2021–2023).

Adeshina faced close competition from Kansas State’s Sharie Enoe, who finished second with a jump of 1.93m.

Her 1.96m mark is currently the top NCAA women’s high jump height for 2026 and ranks fourth in the world.

Coach Kittley expressed confidence in her ability to clear 2m, which could put her in contention to break the NCAA record.

The current record is held by Brigetta Barrett of the University of Arizona, who jumped 1.99m in 2013 and previously cleared 2.03m at the 2012 London Olympics.

The Red Raiders dominated the meet, winning both men’s and women’s team titles. The men scored 125 points for their fourth consecutive title, while the women amassed 114.5 points for their second straight victory.

At 27, Adeshina has earned a spot on The Bowerman mid-indoor watch list, recognizing her as one of the top collegiate athletes.

She joins Texas Tech stars Ruth Usoro, Monae Nichols, and Demisha Roswell in achieving this honor.

For Nigeria, Adeshina has already broken the national high jump record three times, first clearing 1.97m at the 2024 NCAA Championships.

She matched the mark at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships to qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

With her consistent performance, Adeshina is poised to become one of the most decorated high jumpers in NCAA history.
