The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Tanimu Turaki has applauded the Oyo State High Court for affirming the legitimacy of the party’s November 2025 Ibadan National Convention.

Delivering judgment in Ibadan, Justice Ladiran Akintola upheld the validity of the convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, where Turaki was elected National Chairman alongside other members of the PDP National Working Committee.

The court granted all 13 reliefs sought by claimant Folahan Malomo Adelabi, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise and give full effect to the convention’s outcomes.

In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong, the Turaki-led PDP described the ruling as a victory for internal democracy, party unity, and constitutional order.

The party said the judgment validated earlier interim orders issued before the convention, which provided the legal basis for the exercise.

The Oyo court decision comes amid a prolonged PDP leadership crisis. On January 30, a Federal High Court in Ibadan had annulled the same convention and restrained Turaki and others from parading themselves as national officers.

Meanwhile, a faction loyal to Nyesom Wike constituted a caretaker committee, intensifying the internal dispute.

Both camps approached INEC for recognition, but the electoral body declined, pending judicial resolution.

The Court of Appeal has since heard consolidated appeals relating to the PDP leadership tussle and reserved judgment.

Reaffirming confidence in the judiciary, the Turaki-led NWC pledged to pursue all lawful avenues to ensure justice is upheld.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, the latest ruling significantly impacts the balance of power within the PDP and shapes the party’s path forward.
