Abuja witnessed a historic wedding celebration on Thursday, February 6, 2025, as Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle celebrated a major family milestone — the joint marriage of 10 of his children.
The festive occasion brought together five daughters — Maryam, Safiyya, Farida, Nana Firdausi, and Aisha — and five sons — Ibrahim, Abdul Jalal, Surajo, Bello, and Fahad — all of whom exchanged vows in a colourful, culturally rich ceremony at the National Mosque, Abuja.
The weddings blended Islamic traditions, Nigerian culture, and modern festivity, with the couples elegantly dressed for the grand occasion.
In a rare honour, President Bola Tinubu served as Wali during the wedding Fātiḥa, formally representing the bride and grooms in accordance with Islamic rites. Professor Luqman Zakariyah, the officiating Imam, conducted the ceremony, offering prayers for the newlyweds, their families, and the nation.
He prayed, “We ask Almighty Allah to grant our President good health, long life, prosperity, and success. May his leadership bring hope and progress to all Nigerians.”
Minister Matawalle, visibly elated, expressed his gratitude publicly on social media, stating:
“Today, I am deeply honoured and profoundly grateful to President Bola Tinubu for graciously serving as Wali at the wedding Fātiḥa of my children, held at the National Mosque, Abuja. I remain sincerely honoured by this rare privilege.”
The celebration drew an impressive gathering of dignitaries, including President Carlos Vila Nova of São Tomé and Príncipe, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, and other high-profile figures from across Nigeria and beyond.
This grand Matawalle family wedding has since captured national attention, symbolising family unity, faith, and cultural celebration at the highest level.
