Kano State authorities have ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment centres, including gala houses and DJ-operated venues, as residents begin observance of the holy month of Ramadan.
The directive was issued on Tuesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Censorship Board, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman. It takes effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, and will remain in force throughout the fasting period.
“The decision ensures that residents can observe the Ramadan fast and carry out their religious activities in a peaceful and undisturbed atmosphere,” the board stated.
Under the closure, all event centres, nightclubs, and entertainment venues must suspend operations until further notice. The board added that the specific dates for reopening, particularly for Eid celebrations, will be announced in due course.
Stakeholders are urged to cooperate fully and comply with the directive in line with the laws establishing the Kano State Censorship Board. The agency emphasized that this measure is part of its mandate to regulate entertainment activities across the state.
In its statement, the board also prayed for a safe, healthy, and peaceful observance of Ramadan, asking God to grant residents mercy and prosperity during the blessed month.
Residents and venue operators are encouraged to plan ahead and respect the closure, which aims to support a serene spiritual environment during this significant period.
