The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Salihu Sanusi Avidime, has called on staff to actively support ongoing reforms designed to reposition the institution for enhanced performance and academic excellence.
The appeal was made during the rector’s familiarisation visit to the Utakpe campus on Tuesday, part of his engagement with staff and stakeholders following his assumption of office last week. The visit was aimed at understanding staff challenges and identifying key areas that require urgent attention to boost productivity and institutional growth.
Addressing workers, Avidime highlighted the School of Engineering as central to the polytechnic’s mandate, emphasizing the importance of strengthening technical education and hands-on practical training. “Your unwavering support is highly essential to achieve our noble objectives,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to staff welfare and institutional stability.
The rector assured staff that management would address issues of truancy and misconduct fairly, while promoting equity, diligence, and law-abiding conduct across the campus. He expressed optimism that the institution’s challenges—ranging from infrastructure gaps and funding constraints to the need for curriculum modernization—could be effectively resolved through unity and collective effort.
Avidime also expressed gratitude to theExecutive Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for entrusting him with the leadership of the polytechnic, and paid tribute to former governor Yahaya Bello for his encouragement and support.
Staff members present at the visit pledged their loyalty to the rector’s administration, promising full support for his reform agenda aimed at enhancing academic standards and institutional efficiency.
Like many public polytechnics in Nigeria, Kogi State Polytechnic faces challenges in infrastructure, funding, and staff welfare, making the rector’s reform-focused approach critical for the institution’s sustainable growth and modernization.
