I Was Mentally Exhausted: TV Host Krystn Enem Opens Up About 8-Year Break

Veteran Nigerian TV personality Krystn Enem has revealed that mental, emotional, and physical burnout forced her to step away from the television spotlight at the peak of her career, resulting in an unexpected eight-year hiatus.

Before her break, Enem was best known for The Krystn Enem Show, which aired on PRTV and later expanded to Africa Magic Urban on DSTV and GOTV. Her show featured in-depth interviews with top Nigerian entertainers such as Olamide, Falz, Yemi Alade, Simi, Lolo, Denrele Edun, and JJC Skillz, earning her a reputation for engaging, conversational interviews.

Speaking to PUNCH Online on Sunday, Enem explained that her break was unavoidable after nearly a decade of nonstop work.

“I took a break because I was tired—mentally, emotionally, physically, psychologically. Everything. I was even financially tired,” she said.

Enem described how what started as a short pause gradually stretched into years:

“One week of creative block became two weeks, then a month, then two months. I decided to take six months off, and life just kept happening. What was supposed to be a six-month break ended up becoming an eight-year break.”

During her time away, Enem experienced major life transformations, including motherhood and relocating to the United States, describing the period as deeply personal and transformative.

Now making her media comeback, Enem has launched a digital-first podcast, Conversations with Krystn Enem, available on YouTube and Spotify. The podcast focuses on personal growth, identity, relationships, and emotional well-being.

“Growth happens when we start talking. Life moves fast, but here, we slow it down,” Enem said.

Her return marks a new chapter, blending her media expertise with her corporate experience abroad, promising content that resonates with both her long-time fans and a new generation of viewers.
