National News – The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate repair of the Children’s Specialist Hospital in Centre Igboro after a rainstorm damaged critical sections of the facility on Friday, April 10, 2026.
The directive was issued by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq through the state’s Hospitals Management Board following an emergency inspection.
Authorities say the action aims to restore full operations quickly and protect healthcare delivery for mothers and children who depend on the hospital.
According to the Executive Secretary of the board, Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, officials visited the hospital to assess the level of destruction caused by heavy rainfall and strong winds.
The storm reportedly affected roofing structures, windows, and parts of the Emergency Paediatric Unit, raising concerns about safety and service continuity.
The government explained that repair work has already commenced as part of a rapid response plan to prevent disruptions in medical services.
Health officials assured patients and caregivers that treatment would continue without interruption while contractors fix damaged sections of the facility.
Residents and families relying on the hospital have been urged to remain calm, as the state government has approved immediate intervention funding to address the situation.
Authorities emphasised that the hospital remains a vital centre for maternal and child healthcare, making its swift restoration a top priority.
The Kwara government also reiterated its commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the state.
Officials noted that proactive maintenance and emergency responses are essential to ensuring safe and efficient medical services, especially during extreme weather conditions.
Efforts are ongoing to complete repairs promptly, improve structural resilience, and maintain a conducive environment for patients and healthcare workers.
