Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy Alumni Push for Leadership with Impact

The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy Alumni Association has reaffirmed its commitment to leadership with impact, governance reform, and professional collaboration following a landmark Annual General Meeting (AGM).

According to a statement released on Sunday, the AGM marked a defining moment for the alumni network as members reviewed past achievements, strengthened institutional structures, and unveiled a forward-looking vision aimed at shaping leadership and public policy in Nigeria.

CAC Registration Strengthens Institutional Credibility

A major highlight of the meeting was the association’s official registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), formally establishing the body as a recognised entity under the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The move is expected to enhance the association’s operational capacity, transparency, and ability to partner with public and private sector institutions on leadership development and governance initiatives.

Stay in School Project Expands Education Advocacy

The alumni body also showcased impactful programmes executed over the past year, including its Stay in School Project, which provided secondary school students with learning materials, mentorship, and motivation to remain committed to their education.

The initiative reinforced the message that education remains one of the most strategic investments in Nigeria’s future, particularly in building ethical and competent leadership pipelines.

In addition, the association hosted an interactive webinar for prospective fellows and applicants seeking admission into the academy, further expanding awareness and engagement.

Seyi Jakande Attends AGM

The AGM was attended by Seyi Jakande, Chairman of Odi-Olowo Local Council Development Area and son of Lateef Jakande, the first civilian governor of Lagos State, in whose honour the academy was established.

His presence underscored the enduring legacy of the elder Jakande and the academy’s commitment to nurturing transformative leaders.

2035 Vision: A Respected Voice in Governance and Policy

Delivering her address, Chairperson of the Alumni Executive Council, Adepeju Balogun-Awe, outlined an ambitious long-term vision for the association.

By 2035, she said, the alumni network aims to become:

A respected voice in leadership, governance, and public policy

A strong cross-sector professional network shaping systems and institutions

A trusted mentorship pipeline for emerging leaders

She emphasised that the association’s goal goes beyond occupying leadership positions.

“Our aim is not merely to occupy leadership spaces, but to build pathways, strengthen institutions, and lift others along the way.”

Commitment to Governance Reform and Professional Excellence

The AGM concluded with renewed commitment among members to collaborate across sectors, support governance reforms, promote leadership excellence, and drive sustainable community development initiatives.

The LJLA Alumni Association comprises graduates of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy and remains dedicated to strengthening governance systems, advancing public sector innovation, and sustaining professional networks that deliver measurable impact across Nigeria.
