The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has announced the tragic death of six final-year nursing students who lost their lives in a fatal road crash along the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Road in Kwara State.
According to an official statement signed by the university’s Registrar, Olayinka Balogun, the students were travelling from Suleja, Niger State, to campus to sit for their final examinations under the Open and Distance Learning Nursing programme when the accident occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Otte in Kwara State.
The deceased students were identified as Shehu Nana Firdawsi Hamza, Idris Jamila, Abdulraheem Maimunah Hamza, Blessing Kevwe, Owoicho Elizabeth, and Aroke Ozavize Victoria.
Describing the incident as a monumental loss to the university community, the management expressed deep sorrow over the untimely deaths.
The statement noted that the students embodied resilience, determination, and the spirit of academic excellence that defines LAUTECH.
“This devastating incident has left our entire academic community in mourning,” the statement read. “They were committed to completing their education and contributing meaningfully to society.”
The fatal crash reportedly involved a commercial bus conveying the students along the busy Ilorin–Ogbomoso highway, a major transit route in Kwara State known for frequent road accidents.
The university extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, friends, and colleagues of the victims, assuring them of institutional support during this difficult time.
It also called on members of the public to offer prayers for the repose of the students’ souls.
This tragedy marks the second fatal accident involving final-year students in Kwara State within one month, raising renewed concerns about road safety on key highways in the region.
