Australian actress and comedian Magda Szubanski has announced she is in remission following treatment for stage four mantle cell lymphoma, a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer.
The 64-year-old performer shared the encouraging health update on social media, revealing she has completed chemotherapy.
While remission is not considered a cure, Szubanski said doctors are optimistic about keeping the cancer under control long term.
Her candid message reassured fans after months of concern about her diagnosis.
Szubanski publicly disclosed in May last year that she had been diagnosed with stage four mantle cell lymphoma, describing it as a “fast-moving” cancer.
Mantle cell lymphoma is an uncommon subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that typically requires intensive treatment, including chemotherapy and targeted therapies.
Best known for her iconic role as Sharon Strzelecki in the hit Australian sitcom Kath & Kim, Szubanski became a household name in the early 2000s.
Her portrayal of the netball-loving character remains one of Australian television’s most beloved comedic performances.
Beyond television, she also gained international recognition for her roles in the family films Babe and Happy Feet.
Over decades, she has been regarded as one of Australia’s most influential comedy figures.
Her cancer diagnosis prompted an outpouring of support from fellow entertainers and fans alike.
Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue and actress Toni Collette were among those who publicly expressed encouragement.
In addition to her entertainment career, Szubanski has been a prominent advocate for marriage equality in Australia, further cementing her status as a respected public figure.
Her remission marks a hopeful chapter in her health journey, offering inspiration to others facing mantle cell lymphoma and reinforcing the importance of early diagnosis, advanced cancer treatment, and continued medical research.
