A shocking case of alleged fratricide has thrown Ofeh community in Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State into mourning after a man reportedly killed his elder brother over accusations of witchcraft.

The suspect, identified as Nwalozie Chiwendu, allegedly attacked his brother, Chidiebere Isaiah, with a machete on Thursday evening around 4pm, accusing him of spiritually blocking his success.

Brother Accused of Witchcraft Before Fatal Attack

According to community sources, the tragic incident occurred following a heated confrontation between the two siblings. The suspect allegedly claimed that his elder brother was responsible for his stagnation in life through witchcraft.

Eyewitness accounts and images circulating on social media show the victim with multiple machete wounds across his body.

Residents said the suspect fled the scene immediately after realising the gravity of his actions, escaping before he could be apprehended by bystanders.

Community Leaders React to “Unfortunate” Inciden

Speaking on the development, the Youth President of Ofeh community, Chinonso Chima, described the killing as deeply unfortunate and distressing.

He explained that he received an emergency call informing him that the younger brother had allegedly attacked the elder with a cutlass. Despite efforts to rush the victim to the hospital, he reportedly died on the way.

Chima confirmed that the matter had been reported to the police division in the area and assured residents that steps were being taken to ensure justice.

He also appealed for calm, urging members of the community not to resort to jungle justice while authorities handle the case.

Police Launch Manhunt as Investigation Begins

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the incident. The Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that preliminary information suggests the suspect used a cutlass to carry out the attack after accusing the victim of witchcraft.

She confirmed that the deceased’s body has been deposited in a mortuary and that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic killing.
