National News – Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has announced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state will conduct direct primary elections for the 2027 governorship and other key elective positions.

Sule emphasized that the next governor should come from Nasarawa West senatorial zone, in line with fairness and rotational principle among the three zones.

The governor made the declaration on Sunday after a comprehensive meeting with the deputy governor, governorship aspirants, National Assembly members, ministers, and heads of federal agencies from Nasarawa State.

The session allowed stakeholders to freely express their views on ensuring a united APC during the primary election season.

Sule stated that most attendees favored a direct primary system, consistent with President Bola Tinubu’s stance that it empowers all party members to select the party’s flag bearer.

Sule assured that the primary process would be transparent, democratic, and fully compliant with the APC constitution and the Electoral Act.

He cautioned aspirants against leaving the party after losing, saying only those unwilling to accept defeat would exit.

The governor also discussed zoning, clarifying that it is a principle of equity and brotherhood. He noted that Nasarawa South produced the governor for 12 years, and Nasarawa North currently holds the office.

Therefore, in the spirit of fairness, it is Nasarawa West’s turn, covering the Keffi axis, which has not produced a governor for over 20 years.

Expressing gratitude to all participants for their cooperation, Sule expressed confidence that APC would emerge stronger, united, and ready to win the 2027 elections.
