National News – The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Section on Legal Practice is set to launch a pioneering national law directory, aimed at improving access, visibility, and professional structure within Nigeria’s legal sector.
The platform, already registering over 2,600 lawyers, will offer a verified, centralized database for individuals and organisations to locate legal practitioners based on expertise.
Mrs. Folashade Alli (SAN), chairman of the section, disclosed this initiative during a pre-conference briefing in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The directory, part of the NBA’s upcoming conference themed “Evolving Trends: Nigerian Legal Practice, Global Perspective”, is designed to provide practical solutions to the legal profession’s challenges.
Alli emphasized the focus on early-career lawyers, describing them as the future of the profession.
The conference will begin with a specialised training session for 100 young lawyers, concentrating on emerging trends, technology, and global best practices.
About 2,000 participants are expected, with plenary sessions, fireside chats, and technical discussions covering ethics, arbitration, taxation, and the influence of technology on legal practice.
The event will be held at the National Theatre, Lagos, now named Wole Soyinka Theatre, highlighting the connection between law and arts.
Distinguished speakers include Justice Olufemi Elias of the International Court of Justice, former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), and experts from Ghana and the UK.
Attendees will also earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points, reinforcing the conference’s commitment to lifelong learning.
Co-Chairman Mr. Kelechi Obi (SAN) highlighted that sessions are structured to deliver actionable insights rather than theoretical discussions, addressing pressing issues such as financial regulations, garnishee proceedings, and legal ethics.
Social and networking events, including a “Vogue Inspired” gala dinner and post-conference recreational outings, aim to combine professional development with engagement and leisure.
With the NBA digital lawyers’ directory, Nigerians will gain a reliable tool to access legal expertise nationwide, promoting innovation, ethics, and global competitiveness in the legal field.
This initiative marks a transformative step toward enhancing transparency, connectivity, and efficiency in Nigeria’s legal profession.
