National News – The Nigeria Football Federation is reportedly considering increasing the monthly salary of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle to $100,000 as negotiations continue over a revised contract.
The move is part of efforts by the federation and the Federal Government to maintain stability in the national team’s technical leadership ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
Sources within the federation revealed that Chelle, who currently earns $50,000 per month, has requested a new deal worth $130,000 monthly.
According to insiders, the additional amount would also cover the salaries of members of his technical team.
However, officials say the federation is unwilling to exceed a $100,000 monthly salary ceiling.
The discussions come amid growing recognition of Chelle’s role in rebuilding the Super Eagles squad and preparing the team for upcoming international competitions.
Federation officials reportedly believe continuity in leadership is important for the team’s development and overall performance.
Despite the willingness to improve the contract, the NFF has reportedly made it clear that its offer cannot go beyond the proposed amount.
If negotiations fail, the federation may begin searching for another foreign coach to lead the national team.
Sources also indicated that appointing a local coach is not currently being considered should talks collapse.
Instead, the federation would explore international options to replace Chelle if an agreement cannot be reached.
Chelle has defended his demand for an improved contract, explaining that in many African national teams the head coach is responsible for paying members of his technical staff.
According to him, the requested salary increase is intended to provide better working conditions and ensure his backroom team is properly compensated.
The coach also reportedly requested improved accommodation, official transportation, better technical facilities and stronger involvement in scouting and team preparation.
Meanwhile, Chelle is expected to release the Super Eagles squad list for Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies during the next FIFA international window.
