Niger Police Nab Fugitive Vigilante Killer After Two-Year Manhunt

The Niger State Police Command has arrested Sudais Zakari, a suspected vigilante killer who had been evading authorities since 2024. Zakari, from Angwan-Roka, Minna, was apprehended alongside Danjuma Idris of Maitumbi for suspected robbery.

Zakari allegedly killed Ibrahim Yahaya, also known as Danladi Baushe, a vigilante group member in Maitumbi, in April 2024. He was also implicated in multiple armed robbery incidents in the Maitumbi area throughout 2025.

Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun stated that the arrests were part of an operation carried out by Maitumbi Division operatives in collaboration with local vigilante members. “On 7th February 2026 at 10:30 PM, police stormed several criminal hideouts in the Maitumbi area, arresting Sudais Zakari and Danjuma Idris,” Abiodun said.

Danjuma Idris was found in possession of burglary tools, including a bolt cutter, machete, screwdriver, plier, a bunch of keys, a face cap, and a bag suspected to be stolen.

In a related arrest, Aji Gana was intercepted by the Operation Flush patrol team around Maitumbi Roundabout on 8th February 2026 at approximately 3:00 AM. He was found with a cutlass, a pitcher, two handsets, a bunch of keys, plier, and a screwdriver.

“All suspects are under further investigation and will be charged to court once inquiries are completed,” Abiodun added.
