Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to unite and “rescue the country” ahead of the 2027 presidential election, insisting that Nigeria must correct the mistakes of past elections.
Speaking at the OBIDIENT Conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Obi emphasised that the 2027 general election would be decisive for Nigeria’s democratic future.
Obi Launches “Operation Rescue Nigeria” Ahead of 2027 Elections
Addressing supporters at the event themed “Activating the PO Effect in ADC,” Obi said the mission to rescue Nigeria is not about personal ambition but about safeguarding future generations from decades of poor governance.
He urged Nigerians across political, ethnic, and religious divides to join forces ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
“Nigeria must get it right in 2027. Election results must be transmitted online in real time. Democracy must work,” Obi stated.
Real-Time Election Result Transmission Key to 2027 Credibility
A major focus of Obi’s speech was the electronic transmission of election results, a contentious issue during the 2023 general elections.
He insisted that:
Election results must be transmitted online in real time
Failure to transmit results should attract consequences
Citizens must be prepared to defend their votes
Obi warned that Nigerians would not tolerate irregularities in the 2027 elections.
Why Obi Left the Labour Party
Obi explained his exit from the Labour Party, stating that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would not recognise the party’s leadership while he remained a member.
According to him, the Federal Government also did not want him on the ballot.
Despite this, he reaffirmed his determination to contest in 2027, declaring that no political pressure would deter him.
Obi Criticises Rising National Debt
The former Anambra State governor criticised the current administration over Nigeria’s growing debt profile, warning that repayment obligations between 2045 and 2050 would burden future generations.
He argued that excessive borrowing without visible developmental impact threatens Nigeria’s economic stability.
Education, Healthcare, and Poverty Reduction Top Agenda
Outlining his vision for Nigeria, Obi pledged that his administration would:
Invest heavily in education and human capital development
Strengthen healthcare systems nationwide
Reduce poverty and criminality
Conduct nationwide consultations with higher institutions
He maintained that sustainable national development can only be achieved through deliberate investment in education.
Anti-Corruption Commitment
On corruption, Obi reiterated his record as a former governor of Anambra State, stating that he never allocated government land to himself or his family.
He challenged anyone with contrary evidence to petition the appropriate authorities.
OBIDIENT Movement Aligns With African Democratic Congress
The Coordinator of the OBIDIENT movement worldwide, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, announced early grassroots mobilisation for the 2027 general elections, confirming strategic alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He urged supporters to:
Strengthen polling unit structures
Organise ward-level meetings
Revalidate voter registration
Intensify grassroots mobilisation
Supporters declared they would not allow a repeat of the 2023 election controversies.
2027 Presidential Election: A Generational Contest
Speakers at the conference described the 2027 election as a defining moment for Nigeria’s youth, workers, and families.
According to organisers, the focus is on:
Job creation for youths
Improved national security
Economic stability
Restoring public trust in democracy
As early mobilisation gains momentum, the OBIDIENT movement says it is consolidating structures across wards and local government areas nationwide in preparation for 2027.
