Nigerian Army in Ohafia Urges Media to Report Soldier Misconduct in Abia

The Commander of the Nigerian Army 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Abia State, Brigadier General Ahmad Mansur Dikko, has called on journalists to promptly report any misconduct involving soldiers within the state.

Speaking during an interactive session with media professionals at the 14 Brigade Headquarters in Ohafia, Dikko stressed the need for accountability and transparency in military operations. He also warned that any soldier seen escorting celebrities or engaging in unauthorised private duties should be reported to the command for investigation and disciplinary action.

Dikko, who also serves as Commander of Sector 3, Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDOKA, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to professionalism, in line with the media engagement philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu. He emphasised that credible media reporting remains vital to strengthening public trust and enhancing civil-military relations.

“Any cases of misconduct involving personnel should be promptly reported or directed to the Officer Commanding 14 Brigade Military Police for necessary action,” he said.

The Brigade Commander commended the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for supporting the projection of Army activities and achievements in Abia State. He reiterated the Brigade’s mandate to maintain security and stability across its Area of Responsibility while deepening cooperation with the media and host communities.

In his remarks, Abia NUJ Chairman, Chidi Asonye, represented by Felix Obani, pledged continued collaboration with the military, highlighting the media’s role in promoting balanced and responsible reportage.

The visit concluded with the presentation of a commemorative plaque, symbolising sustained partnership between the 14 Brigade and the media amid growing national concerns over alleged misconduct by security personnel.
